Harris County Poor Farm and County Home Log

1898 - 1927

In 1894 Commissioner's Court purchased a second location for a Poor Farm in what is now West University Place in southwest Houston.   It operated until 1922 when the farm was replaced by a County Home for the Aged off Crosby Road in Eastern Harris County.

A ledger (1898—1927) recorded the names, nationality, complaints, and admission and discharge dates of the inmates of the Poor Farm and later the County Home.  All the entries have been transcribed and are  available on an excel spreadsheet .
